The team
Stud was established in 2008 by Kirstin Macdonagh, Lucy Fabby, and Nadim Sadek. It brings together a love for horses and the west of Ireland, a belief in the very best breeding, and grounds that are by the sea and are perfect for raising the finest animals.
In 1976, Kirstin qualified as a BHSAI instructor, and during 1977-78 worked for Paul Schockemoehle in Germany, training his young horses and being responsible for the stallions in the yard. In 1979 and 1980, Kirstin was at Moyglare Stud, County Kildare, as a trainer/instructor.
Kirstin has been involved in a variety of activities beyond the breeding horses and ponies – not least establishing and managing a restaurant of local renown in Westport – but it remains her preoccupation. She is qualified with Defra as an Equine Artificial Inseminator Technician, and manages the day-to-day operations at Inish Turk Beg Stud.
Lucy has worked with ponies since 1984, and has completed in all equestrian disciplines, including showing under saddle at the Royal Dublin Society. In 1987, Lucy worked in Denmark with Christian and Anna Marie Kruse Madsen, and was groom to Mads Palm Greisen and his team of four driving horses, who competed all over Europe in three-day events.
Working in a number of different yards across Ireland, Lucy has extensive experience in stud management, and has bred ponies and horses with winning records in the ring. Furthermore, she is qualified with Defra as an Equine Artificial Inseminator Technician, is a member of the IPC Instructors Register, and helped set up the Clew Bay branch of the Irish Pony Club.
