Part-breds
Our Connemaras produce wonderful part-breds, and there is an ever-growing demand for the marriage of the qualities of the Connemara with that of other breeds. We are interested in three breeds in particular: Irish Draught, Welsh Pony and the Thoroughbred.
Welsh ponies, being part of the Mountain and Moorland family are not completely dissimilar from Connemaras, but bring a certain flamboyance and intelligence along with their smaller frames. Crossed with a Connemara, they produce, intelligent, ring-smart riding ponies that are fun-loving and up to any task.
Historically, Thoroughbreds have been introduced into Connemara bloodlines to improve their speed and agility, and nowadays crossing the two produces wonderfully alert, fast, versatile rides.
At Inish Turk Beg Stud, we are continually developing our cross-breeding ability, starting with an exceptional Irish Draught brood-mare and Welsh stallion. We are currently also evaluating Connemara/Arab cross-breeds, with a beautiful new Arab stallion, "Oriel".
