2010 Residency

An inspiring array of talent came together for our 2010 Residency. The artists lived together on the island, and the work to be exhibited in March next year will be infused with the spirit of Life Vividly Lived that pervades our world.

2009 Residency / 2010 Residency

Seven artists came together for the Residency in 2010. Here they are.

Eilis O'Connell

Eilis O'Connell works with three dimensional forms, the works she creates echo both the organic and the science fictive. Whether in small or large scale, her objects are imbued with a fierce beauty that both seduces and repels.

O’Connell is known for a number of major public commissions in the UK, including Cardiff and the Isle of Dogs. For more information about O'Connell's work, please click here.

David Farrell

David Farrell is a photographer whose intimate portraits of places carry not only topographical reference, but the underlying evidence of human behaviour.

Narrative, while never explicit, drives his work. Farrell has been widely exhibited, from the Houston to Rome. Click here for more information.

Shoichi Sakurai

A key element of Shoi's work is the aesthetic concept of wabisabi, in which the beauty of an object derives from, or is enhanced by, some flaw in it -- or by a patina of age.

A piece's past history can be found in its imperfections, adding to its personal sense of integrity and intrinsic beauty. You can find out more of Shoi's work here.

Nina Tanis

Nina Tanis's area of interest lies in site-specific installation.

Her works are created from the intersection of place, the ideas that arise there, and the objects to be foraged there: an agile and imaginative process that engages and sometimes incorporates the viewer. To see more of Tanis's work, click here.

Michelle Considine

The use of colour in Michelle Considine’s paintings is key to her practice. It is usually highly charged, and she often plays with light and its effects on the objects or landscapes she draws and paints.

She is interested in transporting the viewer to a surreal landscape, and studies the unique and complex forms found in nature, the metamorphosis of the skies and the universe with their constantly changing colours and light systems. She is also interested in pushing the boundaries of what is considered true reality, and what the visual reality can be in one's mind. You can see more of Considine's work, click here.

Ruth Lyons

Ruth Lyons is interested in the curiosities that abound in the environment.

Through installation, video, and painting, she re-locates her subject and re-introduces us to our ability to interrogate them. More of Ruth's work can be found here.
